The Water Workshop is hosted at Water Bear Studios located at 330 NW 170th St. Newberry, FL, just 10 minutes from I-75 in Gainesville. The Springs day will be at one of our local Florida Springs in the High Springs or Fort White Area, approximately 20-30 minutes from the studio.

Gainesville is located in the heart of North Central Florida and is easily accessible. Nearby airports include our local Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV, Flights available through Delta and American), as well as Jacksonville, (JAX), Orlando (MCO), and Tampa (TPA), all of which are within two hours.

There are numerous hotels near I-75 in Gainesville, at all exits, and are between a 10 and 20 minute drive to the studio. Gainesville and the surrounding areas also host many AirBnBs and other rentals.

We provide breakfast and lunch on the two days at the studio, and a beverages and snacks for the Springs day. When you register, we ask about food allergies to ensure we are accommodating everyone’s needs. There will be options for all dietary restrictions.

The Underwater Portrait Photography Workshop is for photographers of all adult ages. For liability reasons, all participants should be ages 18 and older to participate. All activities outside the workshop times including travel and accommodations are the responsibility of the attendees.

The workshop is taught with the use of Freediving techniques to capture images. SCUBA and other surface-supplied gas will not be able to be accommodated at the pool.

We will film and photograph portions of the workshop for advertising, so we advise wearing swimwear you are comfortable being shown in. The pool will be heated and a swimsuit, rashguard, or even a 3mm wetsuit is generally the choice by most attendees. For the Springs day, the water temperature is around 70 F so we recommend a 5mm wetsuit.

During the course, you will learn about the concepts of shooting with natural light. All sets and shoots are designed to be shot with natural light negating the need for additional lighting. Because of the space constraints in the pool we ask attendees not to bring strobes or other lights that may intrude into others space.

All the images you capture are for your use in marketing and advertising. They are your images and how they are used is totally up to you. The optional Springs shoot is not an official part of The Water Workshop® and therefore the images CAN be used to submit for competitions. The models and hosts from the workshop will be available to shoot at the Springs and to direct and assist.
