FAQs About A Boudoir Photoshoot

Boudoir photoshoots are an absolute blast! Not only do you get some time to celebrate yourself, you’ll have some epic photos to look back on, or share with your special someone. Boudoir shoots do raise some concerns for many people, especially women, with regard to their safety and privacy. They have a lot of questions and I have a lot of answers. To get you started on your boudoir photoshoot journey, I’ve compiled a list of FAQs, the most commonly asked (and answered) questions I get from clients. Let’s dive in!

FAQs About Your Comfort and Privacy During A Boudoir Photoshoot:

What is your studio environment like? Is it private and secure?

The boudoir photography studio at Water Bear Photography is a private, well-lit studio located in Jonesville, near Gainesville, Florida. The studio is quiet, not located in a commercial area, and is private. The studio is by appointment only and does not have windows that face the street or any other buildings. Even our outdoor studio pool is private. The goal of my studio is to make sure all our boudoir photography clients feel safe and comfortable.

Who will be present during the shoot?

During your boudoir shoot, I will be the only person from our studio present. Most boudoir shoots are just me and the client. If you’re more comfortable bringing a friend, partner, or family member along, you can absolutely do so.

What steps do you take to ensure my privacy and the security of my images?

When I send you the contract for photography services, there is a question that will specifically ask you how you want me to protect your images. I do love to share incredible images when I can, but I do want to fully respect your privacy. If you don’t want the photos shared, they never will be. If you want the raw images deleted after your session, I can absolutely do that.

Do you offer a consultation beforehand to discuss my concerns and answer questions?

As part of your boudoir photography experience at our studio in Gainesville, I will meet with you two times before the shoot for an initial discovery consultation (usually virtual or over the phone), and for a planning and design session (usually in-person but can be done virtually). During these sessions, I can address and answer any and all of the questions and concerns you have.

FAQs About The Experience and Style of Your Boudoir Photoshoot:

Can I see your portfolio of boudoir work?

Because of the sensitive nature of boudoir photography, I do not have a lot of our work visible online. I do however have several galleries that previous clients have given me permission to share directly with others. I can send you a link to a full gallery full of boudoir images from past shoots. You can find some of our boudoir work on our Facebook and Instagram pages as well.

What is your editing style?

When I edit your images, I want you to look like you. Beyond basic color correction, editing includes eyes, skin, and teeth to ensure colors are correct. Hair is edited to remove strays and fix areas that moved. The editing process will also include modifications to gowns and clothing to make everything fit properly and fix or fill in any problematic areas. I do offer composite editing and will replace limbs, bodies, etc. from other images of yours where I feel something doesn’t look quite right. The goal in editing is to make sure you are still you and that everything compliments your unique personality and style.

Do you have experience working with clients who are new to boudoir photography or have body image concerns?

I’ve worked with boudoir clients of all experience levels and body types. Over the years, I’ve developed a flow to posing that lets us get stunning images naturally and move efficiently across the studio. My goal as a boudoir photographer is to capture you and create images of you as you are. While I will edit the photos to make corrections, I do not modify bodies to change your look or shape. I have always found that clients who love themselves have the best experience with a boudoir shoot.

Are you open to incorporating my ideas and preferences into the shoot?

Your boudoir shoot should be unique to you. I want your input. That’s why we have a design and planning session. At your design and planning session, we’ll talk about your vision for your photoshoot and work up the details of how we’ll make your vision a reality.

What kind of props do you use?

Your boudoir shoot at my studio in Gainesville can be simple, on a flat backdrop, or full of props. I have a variety of apparel for boudoir clients as well as couches, chairs, a bed, and a shower setup that clients most commonly request.

FAQs About the Logistics and Cost of Your Boudoir Photoshoot:

What are your packages and pricing?

All of our photography sessions start with a session fee that includes your consultation, planning and design session, photoshoot, use of my gown closet and props, and your image selection session. Many of the session fees include credit toward the purchase of images or artwork. All images and artwork are a la carte so you can pick and choose exactly what you want. My studio has many options from digital images to masterpiece wall art and heirloom albums.

Do you offer hair and makeup services?

I want you to look and feel your best for your boudoir photoshoot. While I don’t employ a hair and makeup artist, I do have a few I can bring in or refer you to. The artist can come to our Gainesville photography studio, or meet you at your location. Whatever is most convenient for you. The cost for hair and makeup can be added to your photography session fee, or you can pay them directly.

What should I wear to the shoot?

At your planning and design session, we will discuss wardrobe. Since boudoir photography sessions usually have several outfit changes, I recommend coming to the studio wearing something comfortable. Our Gainesville boudoir studio has a full bathroom for you to change in.

Do you offer retouching or editing services?

When I edit your images, I want you to look like you. Beyond basic color correction, editing includes eyes, skin, and teeth to ensure colors are correct. Hair is edited to remove strays and fix areas that moved. The editing process will also include modifications to gowns and clothing to make everything fit properly and fix or fill in any problematic areas. I do offer composite editing and will replace limbs, bodies, etc. from other images of yours where I feel something doesn’t look quite right. The goal in editing is to make sure you are still you and that everything compliments your unique personality and style.

What is your payment policy?

My Gainesville photography studio accepts cash, check, or card payments (both online and in-person). Your session fee is due at the time of booking to secure your day/time. If you’re experiencing one of our underwater boudoir sessions, I require a minimum deposit with the remaining balance due before the session date. All balances for images and artwork are due before I begin the process of doing your final edits and creating your artwork. My studio does offer payment plans as well, and we can discuss those at your image selection session.

How Do I Get My Images?

After you’ve made your final selections, and we’ve discussed what artwork you want, I will take your selections and spend several days perfecting them and turning them into masterpieces. From there, I will send you digital copies to review to make sure you are happy with them before designing your album or artwork. Once designed, you’ll have another opportunity to review the mockups so you know exactly what everything will look like once you receive it. I’ll send your digital images to you in an online gallery you can download, and after I’ve ordered and received your boudoir albums and artwork, I will meticulously inspect them before delivering to your home, or shipping them to you if you are one of our out-of-town clients.

Everything Else You May Want to Know:

What is your cancellation policy?

My studio understands that things come up. If you need to cancel your boudoir photography session, no worries. We can go through the cancellation process.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the shoot? (For outdoor sessions)

It’s Florida, it feels like it rains randomly everyday right? If we’re planning your photoshoot at our Gainesville studio, weather isn’t a problem. If it looks like the weather may impact your outdoor or underwater boudoir shoot, we’ll keep a close eye on the weather, and adjust or shift as necessary.

What are your safety precautions for COVID-19? (or other illnesses)

As we are all aware, COVID is still around and likely always will be. As with any and all potential illnesses, we want you to be healthy. If I come down with something before your shoot, I will let you know beforehand and we can reschedule. Additionally, I expect the same from you. I work with a wide variety of clients and ask all of them to respect our health as much as I respect yours.

Questions You Might Have About Me as Your Boudoir Photographer:

Why did you become a boudoir photographer?

I got into the photography industry because I saw how photos can impact the way women feel about themselves. Boudoir especially holds a special place in my heart because it gives me the opportunity to show how beautiful women really are. We see what’s on the outside every single day and all women should have some stunning images that let them not only see their beauty, but give them confidence.

What do you enjoy most about boudoir photography?

I enjoy showing each boudoir client their images. Getting to see the looks on their faces and hearing how they love their photos makes me happy that I was able to deliver artwork they love and are excited to display. Many of my boudoir clients choose our Little Black Book album but some also choose to have their image printed as large wall art to display in their homes.

What makes you different from other boudoir photographers?

When I create the artwork for boudoir images, I emphasize an editing style that is true to life. I don’t over-edit or change a woman’s general body shape. I want every woman to see their beauty as the person they are. Additionally, no one near Gainesville, Florida offers underwater boudoir photography except my studio. I had a pool custom-built specifically for photography and can work with you to create incredible underwater boudoir portraits.

Do you have any client testimonials or reviews I can read?

Water Bear Photography has reviews on Google, as well as Facebook.
