Stunning Underwater Maternity Photoshoot at Scuba Monkey Dive Center
Raeven and her family drove over 15 hours from North Carolina to have her stunning underwater maternity photoshoot done here in Gainesville, Florida with us at Water Bear Photography. I’m always flattered when clients are willing to travel and I like to try and make their visit extra special! When she and I first started chatting months prior, she mentioned that this would be her second- and last- baby. As such, it was really important to capture this pregnancy in a unique and fun way. She told me she would like to get some laidback family photos that were loosely boho styled and that she dreamed of solo underwater maternity images too.
The day after she arrived in Florida, she met me at the studio near Gainesville for a fun, creative boudoir style studio maternity photoshoot. We played dress up with new gowns, experimented with different makeup looks (she’s a talented makeup artist), and captured everything from a classical, painterly portrait to fine art to artistic nudes. She is such a creative spirit and I loved having the opportunity to try new things with her! It’s always so fun to meet a kindred soul who loves the creative process.
That evening, we met up again for her bohemian style maternity family photoshoot at a giant live oak tree just outside of Gainesville. Unfortunately, it was during one of our three days of winter and it was miserably cold. We were worried her two-year-old son wouldn’t want to do photos due to the weather, but those fears were unfounded! He was so happy and sweet and we captured plenty of little man smiling. He really enjoyed exploring the huge tree and getting swung in the air by his mom and dad. This little dude is going to be the sweetest big brother!
Thankfully, Raeven had the foresight to move her underwater session from the springs to an indoor heated pool! We’ve shot underwater sessions in weather as cold as 26 degrees F, but thankfully that wasn’t the case with her. Scuba Monkey Dive Center in Alachua hosted us and we were able to capture tons of different looks since we weren’t cold or fighting a current. As with every underwater session, I brought along our trusted safety swimmer and we did a safety briefing prior to entering the water. We started by working on posing in the shallow end and then progressed to deeper water as her confidence grew.
We created a combination of regular underwater maternity images and fine art black background images. Something I love about shooting in a pool is that ability for outfit changes easily and incorporating more accessories. We will be pre-booking sessions in Water Bear’s new pool, which should be finished in mid-April 2021. If you’re one of the first to book an underwater photoshoot with us, we have some amazing and special incentives for you!
If you’re thinking about your own stunning underwater maternity photoshoot, I would love to help you create some gorgeous artwork! Safety is always a top priority for underwater maternity photoshoots. Let us attend to the details so you can enjoy creating this memorable moment in time!
